Meet the Fortis Team
David was one of the first beta customers of Fortis. He became a partner and investor in 2009. Dave is a seasoned investor and entrepreneur. He has successfully raised capital and created shareholder value for each of the companies in his portfolio.
As CEO, David works with the Fortis management team on setting the direction of the company and assisting the team with execution.
Previously, David was in the investment banking business managing sales and trading divisions.
David graduated from Santa Clara University with BS in Business Administration and a minor in Finance.
When David isn’t spending time with his wife and kids, he is pursuing outdoor activities.
Founder & Chief Technology Officer
Peter founded Fortis as a company that specializes in business communications for small to medium sized businesses. He built the 1st generation of the Fortis network and developed the operations support and billing systems for the company.
Peter serves as the CTO of the company overseeing all engineering projects.
Before launching Fortis in 2009, Peter was CEO and Founder of Ai Metrix where he invented the NeuralStar network management system (NMS) used to manage the Global Information Grid for the United State Department of Defense. NeuralStar manages the communications for over 850 military bases, camps and post locations around the world.
Peter also authored three enterprise-level operations support systems for Frontier Communications. He started out at Sprint as a senior systems analyst automating the operation of the Tandem computer network.
Peter has a wide range of database, operating system and programming language experience.
He is a graduate of M.T.I. Business College and CSUS Executive Leadership Program in Sacramento, California.
In his spare time, you’ll find Peter heading up the Company’s rock band in our warehouse. If he’s not working or playing in the band, he spends time with his wife and two sons.
VP of Sales & Marketing
David is a founding partner of Fortis. In the early years of Fortis, David generated sales and built brand awareness via multiple business development, channel partner, and direct sales initiatives.
Currently, David oversees Sales & Marketing at Fortis.
With 25 years in the telecom software and information technology market, David held Director, Business Unit Manager, and Sales Engineering positions deploying and supporting large-scale OSS/NMS systems to companies such as AT&T, Comcast, Ameritech, Broadwing, and Cisco.
This background enables David to specialize in delivering Internet, VoIP, and IT solutions to executives and business owners in an easy to understand, “plain English” manner. This is a very much appreciated sales approach in today’s increasingly complex IT landscape.
David holds a degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business from Chico State.
When not spending time with his family, David spends as much time as he can working out and playing various sports with buddies.
VP of Information Technology
Derek was the founder/owner of CNS for 20 years. Derek became part of the Fortis Team in 2016 with the merger of CNS and Fortis.
Derek provides Tier 3 support to the technical team, oversees service delivery on large deployments, and executes special projects (NIST). Derek works closely with sales and marketing on product management and sales engineering.
With over 25+ years experience in software and network engineering, Derek specializes in all forms of IT support and sales. This background enables Derek to provide unique solutions to some of our Customer’s more complex environments and needs.
Derek and his wife spend most of their free time raising their two teenagers at the moment. Also Derek loves anything radio controlled and taking people water skiing on his boat.
Technical Project Manager
Mike joined the Fortis Team in 2012. Mike quickly advanced to the role of Manager here at Fortis starting out on the Internet service side of the business.
Mike now manages the VoIP team and all VoIP related projects. Mike oversees product development, service delivery, and support for the Fortis’ ProLinePBX hosted VoIP solution. Mike also specializes in the delivery of complex dial-plans and configurations to some of our larger Call Center VoIP systems.
Mike has an incredible work ethic. All customers love working with Mike. His approach to customer service was honed from years in the audio/video space and retail management.
Mike has a BA in Liberal Arts from California State University East Bay.
Mike is very family oriented, ridiculously good at talking anything SF Giants, and is the lead singer in the company’s rock band.
Director of Technology Services
Enrique came to Fortis with extensive experience as a Senior IT Support Technician and Manager.
With his versatile background, Enrique specializes in interfacing with customers, understanding their requirements, and delivering products/services to meet those needs.
Previously Enrique has held positions as a software programmer/analyst, Systems Engineer, IT Administrator, Application Support Manager, and Information Systems Manager. Enrique will also love talking about his time as a part-time instructor teaching computer and Windows/Office software to youth groups.
Enrique holds a BS in Computer Information Systems from San Francisco State University and is a Microsoft Certified Professional.
In his spare time, Enrique loves running and endurance sports. (Recently, he completed the California International Marathon, which makes most of us at Fortis just shudder). Like most engineers, Enrique plays guitar as an instrument. He and his wife are very busy raising three boys!
Kim Bedel joined Fortis after moving from the San Luis Obispo area.
Kim handles the accounting and billing responsibilities while being an administrative assistant to the Exec team.
Prior to Fortis, Kim worked for a local telecom company based in Southern California. While there she was a business analyst specializing in streamlining billing and collections processes.
In her spare time, Kim enjoys arts, crafts and as much traveling as she can fit in.
Senior IT Engineer
Dave joined the Fortis Team in 2016 as part of our merger with CNS.
Dave is our Systems Engineer specializing in all IT programs/services for our customer base. With 20+ years in IT, there isn’t much that Dave doesn’t know about or how to do.
As with our other senior IT support staff, Dave specializes in working directly with customers, learning about their requirements/needs, and solving those problems. We’ve heard from many that Dave has a unique “calming effect” with Customers.
Prior to Fortis, Dave worked at CNS for 14 years and a variety of IT positions before that.
Dave takes a lot of pride in his saltwater reef tanks and spending time outdoors.
Network Operations Engineer
Brad came on as Network Engineer in late 2015. Brad heads up our Network Operations Center (NOC) and is responsible for the network operations of the Fortis network. Brad works closely with our secondary NOC team – 24x7x365 monitoring of our Internet, and hosted VoIP platform.
Brad spent years working as a network engineer with AT&T on large accounts such as Williams Sonoma and the Gap. He interfaced with thousands of users from hundreds of stores to help troubleshoot local area network problems.
Brad has various network and IT certifications, including his CCNA.
In his spare time, Brad focuses on spending time with his wife and 2 kids. Brad is also very involved with his church where he volunteers as much as possible. He also loves riding his bike. We like that for Brad also, but don’t care for his biking shorts around the office.
Noah started at Fortis in 2018 to enhance the help desk and IT service offering. He believes that IT is integral to all types of business and can translate that need into top-tier support.
Noah recently left a Fortune 500 Public Utilities Company to further expand his technical skill set and achieve his professional goals. He brings years of help desk operations experience to Fortis.
He holds multiple technical certifications from CompTIA (A+, Net+, Security+) and Cisco (CCENT, CCNA, pending IINS).
When Noah is not at work, he can be found nose deep in a book or putting pedal to metal on his road bike.
Joining Fortis in 2018, Casey is one of our help-desk technicians who specializes in customer service and technical support.
Coming from a background full of a wide-range of experiences, Casey’s expertise spans everything from client interfacing to cyber security.
Casey started his IT career as a Cryptologic Technician in the US Navy, gaining military training through the prestigious Center For Information Dominance. From there he worked as a federal contractor for such companies like Booz-Allen Hamilton, Northrop-Grumman, IBM, Boeing, and more.
Casey has earned his education through the Navy and currently holds a Bachelors of Science degree as well as many certifications, medals, and awards.
By night, Casey is a musician and production artist. He is also an avid nature lover.
